SPIDER

About the project

SPIDER is a balloon-based CMB polarization experiment observing from 38 000 meters above Antartica. The first flight, observing at 94 and 150 GHz, took place in January 2015 and lasted for 16 days. The next flight is scheduled for December 2021.

Objectives

The main goal is to measure or constrain primordial B-modes in the CMB, and thereby constrain theories of inflation in the early universe.

Financing

From 2016-2019 the Norwegian participation in SPIDER was funded by the Research Council of Norway through the FRINATEK program. Now it is supported by two ERC Consolidator grants.
