Most of the current exoplanet research is concentrated on main sequence stars similar to our Sun, with the main goal of finding Earth-like analogues, and on planetary system's formation. Very little is known on the late-stage evolution of planetary systems. In this talk I will review the recent discoveries of the first planets orbiting post-red giant branch stars and discuss the different detection methods used. I will compare these first results with some theoretical prediction and discuss what we can expect in this field for the next years.
