Fredagskollokvium: Do the laws of nature vary across the universe?
John Webb, Professor at University New South Wales, Australia
Searching for variations in fundamental constants provide an important
test of grand unification theories. Recent observations of quasars hint
at a possible spatial dependence of the fine structure constant. I will
describe new work aimed at making the first 1000 measurements of varying
fine structure constant over cosmological scales, using a new automated
AI method that enables a much large sample to be studied and also
removes any possible human bias in the results.
