Fredagskollokvium: Details of magnetic reconnection and the solar atmosphere
Boris Gudiksen, Professor, ITA
The solar corona is known to be the host of numerous reconnection events. Most of them smaller than can be observed. Reconnection efficiently converts energy bound in a magnetic field into other types of energy. The amount of energy released by the magnetic field is very large, and can have large impacts on space weather, but so far we don’t really know how this conversion works in detail. The topic of this talk is what ‘other types of energy’ mean, what we can do to identify them and how far we have gotten so far.
