In situ analyses of individual minerals of Martian meteorites have yielded subtle chemical and isotopic signatures that would have been lost during traditional bulk analysis. Results from these Earth based investigations, in combination with observations from landers and orbiters, have been used to create a consistent model(s) for the surface interactions with Martian meteorites, the chronology of Martian meteorites, and the differentiation history of Mars.
