New face: Svenja Christiansen
I started my PhD with AQUA and CEES in October 2017. I am interested in distribution patterns and migration behaviour of mesopelagic organisms, their biological and environmental causes and ecological and biogeochemical consequences. I did my Bachelor and Master in Kiel, Germany, and during the last years worked a lot on the ecology of mesoscale eddies in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. I used in situ camera systems to investigate the impacts of these oceanographic features on zooplankton distribution in the tropical Atlantic Ocean and to assess the influence of increased abundances of flux feeding zooplankton on eddy biogeochemistry.
In my PhD project I will use acoustics to delve deeper into the diel vertical migration patterns and swimming behaviour of mesopelagic fish and macrozooplankton in Norwegian fjords.
