Retaking examinations

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers deferred and new examinations, so-called "resits" to students who are ill or are absent for valid reasons, and to students who fail or withdraw during the initial examination. You can sign up for a deferred or new examination on StudentWeb.

A deferred or new examination?

What is a deferred or new examination?

When can I register?

  • In January, the registration deadline is about one week before the deferred / new written examination is held. This is usually 5–10 January.
  • In August, the registration deadline is the first weekend of August.
  • The deadline for withdrawing from a deferred or new examination is the same as the registration deadline.

Time and place

  • For courses with the final examination in December, deferred or new written examinations will be held on the Thursday and Friday before teaching begins in January.
  • For courses with the final examination in June, deferred or new written examinations will be held on the Thursday and Friday before teaching begins in August.
  • The examination venue will be listed on StudentWeb 4–5 days before the examination.

Adaptation

If you have been granted adaptation of ordinary examinations, you will normally receive the same adaptation if you take a new or deferred examination.

Pregnancy

  • Pregnant women whose estimated date of delivery is between six weeks prior to or six weeks after an examination are entitled to a deferred examination. This also applies to courses that have ordinary examinations twice a year.
  • A deferred examination can be held before or after the ordinary examination, and must take place at least six weeks before or after childbirth.
  • If the estimated date of delivery is outside the six-week period, a deferred examination can still be granted if the baby is born within this period.

If you want a deferred examination for this reason, send an application to the examination office with a medical certificate containing your estimated date of delivery or a copy of the birth certificate.
