Site-specific Drug Delivery (SiteDel)

The scientific aim of the group is to develop new site specific drug delivery systems and in addition acquire knowledge about basic mechanisms for controlling the site and the rate of drug release.

Particles made and studied within the SiteDel group include coated MCC pellet, spray-dried microparticles of pectin and microparticles composed of chitosan and PLGA.

About the group

SiteDel is an interdisciplinary group working within the field of formulation, pharmaceutical technology and polymer chemistry.

We are working with physical characterisation and drug delivery applications of particles within a broad range in size with special focus on dendrimers, liposomes, polymer based nanoparticles and microparticles. In addition the group is working with hydrogels. The group has a high focus on bioadhesive systems. The relevant sites for drug release include the oral cavity, the upper part of the small intestine and the colon.

Sustainability

We support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and our activities are relevant for several of the goals, in particular:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. The ultimate goal ogf our research is improved health and well-being for all. Goal 4: Quality Education. We aim at providing quality education for all our students. Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Our research is of relevance for industriual applications, as demonstrated by several innovation-grants. Goal 17: Partnerships. Our research is in its essence multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary cooperation is demonstrated by our long list of collaborators

Research areas

Within SiteDel we have different sites of administration with special attention:
