Faglige interesser

Mikrobiell genomdynamikk og virulensstudier fortrinnsvis hos intracellulære patogene bakterier som forårsaker sykdom hos mennesker og i fiskearter som er viktig for akvakultur. Forskningsgruppen fokuserer for øyeblikket mest på den humanpatogene bakterien Vibrio cholerae og de fiskepatogene bakteriene Francisella noatunensis, Piscirickettsia salmonis og Yersinia ruckeri. I forskningen vår benytter vi modellorganismer som sebrafisk og mus.

Vi er opptatt av å benytte vår nyervervde kunnskap til innovasjon. Vi undersøker om membranvesikler som produseres av bakterier kan brukes som vaksiner for fisk i akvakultur.

Her har vi tett samarbeid med flere kommersielle aktører innen fiskeoppdrett.

Vi forsker også på problemene rundt utvikling av antimikrobiell resistens og hvilke effekter bruk av antibiotika har på mikrobiomet og i miljøet. Vi samarbeider med flere forskergrupper for å finne nye løsninger mot dette globale problemet hvor vi blant annet søker etter nye antimikrobielle midler, heriblant hos marine mikroalger.
