As the last of the first generation FME centres, SUCCESS is now finalizing its deliverables and coming to an end. The research staff is busy summing up their findings in a series of seven reports. Closing conference March 6–8, 2018 in Oslo. Read our newsletter from December 2017.

Department of Geosciences is one of the partners in the SUCCESS Centre - (SUbsurface CO2 storage – Critical Elements and Superior Strategy). The SUCCESS centre is one of the Norwegian Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME). The main purpose of the centre is to gather sufficient knowledge to store CO2 underground, safely and permanently. The centres annual report for 2013 activities is now online.
Den tryggeste formen for CO2-lagring er mineralisering av klimagassen i stein. Dette er også en naturlig prosess som vil skje i de fleste CO2-reservoarer. - CO2 mixed with formation water does not geochemically alter the seals to such an extent that they leak, summarizes Professor of Geology Per Aagaard, and adds: Although these promising results of the SSC-Ramore project, we still do need more knowledge of the process involved in the sealing caprock above the CO2 reservoir to be certain that the sealing is tight and CO2 stays in place. Now our research focus has somewhat shifted towards how the geomechanical properties change with diagenetic processes (cementation) and structural deformation processes.
