About the project
The primary objective of the project is to use state-of-the-art numerical codes to model the tectonic and thermal evolution of the sedimentary basins of the Barents Sea, particularly in the central area where the border between Norway and Russia has been recently resolved. The modelling will examine the linkage between deep crustal and mantle processes and the effects of such processes on the formation and development of sedimentary basins and fluid flow within these basins. These activities will generate new understanding of the transition between eastern and western Barents geological provinces, and contribute to optimization of future data acquisition in order to test and refine hypotheses about basin evolution and hydrocarbon resource potential.
