Nils Chr. Stenseth is elected a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Friday 28th of October Professor Nils Chr. Stenseth was elected into the prestigious academy as a foreign associate.

He is the only Norwegian scientist that is a member of the Russian, French and American Academy of Sciences at the same time. Last year he was inaugurated as a foreign associate in the National Academy of Sciences. In 2005 he was the second norwegian to become a member in Académie des Sciences. In addition he is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters of which he has been a president.

In addition he writes on his personal profile:
I have been awarded honorary doctorates (Doctor Honoris Causa) at the University of Antwerpen, Belgium (2001) and at the École Normale Supéreure, Lyon, France (2011), and I am honorary Professor at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. I am Chevalier (Knight) in the French National Order of the Legion of Honour.

The Russian Academy of Sciences was established in 1724. The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is a civil self-governed non-commercial organization according to their web pages. They further write that "Principal aim of the Russian Academy of Sciences consists in organization and performance of fundamental researches for the purpose of obtaining further knowledge of the natural, social and human development principles that promote technological, economic, social and cultural development in Russia."
