Academic Interests
I am interested in DNA sequencing techniques and methods for extracting information from biological sequences.
Teaching
After retirement in 2015 I have sporadically taken part in BIOS3010 and BIOS1130.
Higher education and employment history
I took a "hovedfag" degree in biochemistry at Department of Biochemistry, University of Oslo in 1971. After 6 years as a scientific assistant at the same department and a researcher in the group of Hans Prydz at Institute of Internal Medicine Research at Rikshospitalet , I took the Dr. philos. degree at University of Oslo in 1984. Together with the rest of the Prydz group I moved to The Biotechnology Centre of Oslo when the centre opened. I had serveral research visits to the group of Wilhelm Ansorge, EMBL, Heidelberg, developing a system for automated DNA sequencing. At The Biotechnology Centre of Oslo, I lead a service center of DNA sequening based on this technology. In 1994 I got an associated professor postition at Department of Biochemistry, University of Oslo. My position was later changed to full professor, and the department eventually was merged with the Department of Biology, leading to the formation of Department of Biosciences (IBV). Some years later IBV was merged with Department of Biology to form Department of Biosciences.
