Student Grants for ESSLLI 2016
This year, the annual European Summer School in Language, Logic, and Information (ESSLLI) is hosted in Bolzano (Italy), from August 15 to August 26, 2016. For more than 25 years, ESSLLI has been an important meeting place for students and researchers from language technology, logic, linguistics, and computer science, typically attracting more than 500 participants from all over the world. Running over two weeks, the summer school offers 45 courses at introductory and advanced levels, taught by international experts.
To encourage participation, the IFI Language Technology Group once again offers travel grants to students enrolled in our study programmes, Informatics: Language and Communication (or to MSc students on other study programmes who are supervised by LTG staff). To qualify one must either be an active MSc student, or a BSc student in their fourth semester or later, and we offer a maximum of four grants for NOK 7500,00 each. These grants are intended to cover a non-trivial part of the cost of attending ESSLLI, i.e. registration, travel, and accomodation; the grants are provided in the form of a tax-free, lump-sum stipend.
We ask interested students to email a short, informal ‘statement of purpose’ to Stephan Oepen before Monday, April 25, 2016. Please summarize briefly your current student status and study plans for the next few semesters, as well as your expectations regarding ESSLLI courses and their contribution to your individual course of study. All statements of interest will be reviewed by a selection of LTG faculty members, and grant decisions will be made before the end of April.
