Mikal Vike Villa will give a talk titled

"Bitcoin: how it works in depth"

Abstract:

"This is a presentation to explain Bitcoin in depth, and the security aspects around it. We will dig into how we send, receive, and use bitcoins, and how the security behind it works. The Bitcoin system has security routines for double spending and other issues a currency system needs to address."

Keywords: ECDSA, hashing, networking, anonymity

Students and other interested listeners are encouraged to attend!

The talk plans to present this new Bitcoin theory/technology that announces itself as a decentralized currency for the Internet. The talk will go into the security techniques that are used to keep Bitcoin in place. Setting aside the various controversies that economists raise in the press about Bitcoin, the security techniques behind Bitcoin open a wide palette of research questions and  opportunities.
This talk could be of interest at least to:
- security people,
- formal methods people who want to analyse the various protocols and algorithms behind Bitcon,
- networking people who want to investigate the complex infrastructure that Bitcoin functions on, or to
- social and cognitive studies people that are interested in the human/business involvement in this system and the various possible missuses.

This will be part of the AFSecurity Seminar.

The talk is in the usual
Meeting Room Awk (room 3118), OJD House (Ole-Johan Dahls Hus),
Department of Informatics (IfI), University of Oslo,
Gaustadalléen 23b, 0371 Oslo.
