Academic interests

I study oxides that can be used in energy conversion devices; focus is on fuel cells and thermoelectric generators. When we want to use oxides in fuel cells and thermoelectric generators, the oxide must contain point defects. I am interested in how these defects are formed and how fast the defects are transported in various oxides; ranging from metals and semiconductors through mixed conductors to pure ionic conductors. A special focus has been on the impact of grain boundaries on transport in polycrystalline oxides.

I approach the questions we ask by employing electrochemical methods, in particular impedance spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric methods are also used. DFT-based computational methodology is used in collaboration with other scientists.
