Time: Mar 7, 2012 09:00 AM - Mar 9, 2012 04:00 PM

The inGAP-OCMOL winter school 2012 is organized at UiO, on March 7-9, 2012. The program consists of two full-day courses devoted to X-ray diffraction and Chemical reaction engineering, respectively, and a visit to INEOS' industrial plant at Herøya, where ethene is converted to vinyl chloride monomer (VCM).

The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) course is suited for anyone at MSc/PhD or higher level who wants to use TOPAS software for e.g. peak fitting, strain calculations, mixture quantification and structure determination. Practical exercises using TOPAS software will be part of the seminar. A session will be devoted to sample preparation.

The Chemical reaction engineering course is suited for chemists aiming at performing conventional reactor tests and/or operando spectroscopy. The seminar will cover topics such as mass balances, reactor design equations, mass and thermal diffusion, rate laws and determination of kinetic parameters. Briefly - the possibilities and pitfalls of reactor testing. The seminar will be based on H. Scott Fogler: "Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering".
