Faglige interesser

Vår miljøforskning er tverrfaglig, der vi bruker vår kjemikunnskap, kjemiske analyseverktøy og statistikk sammen med modellering/simulering for, i samarbeid med andre naturvitere og samfunnsvitere, å generere kunnskap for en bærekraftig forvaltning av våre naturressurser.

Det vi gjør er å studere de hydro-, bio- og geo-kjemiske prosessene som styrer utvasking og transport av kjemiske stoffer fra jord til ferskvann.

Mer konkret forsker vi på overgjødsling (eutrofiering), effekter av klimaendringer på vannkvalitet, fraksjonering/spesiering av tungmetaller (spesielt Hg) for å forstå deres transport og mobilitet fra jord til vann, og egenskapene og rollen til naturlig løst organisk materiale (humus). Studiene foregår i stor grad i Kina, sentral Asia, Øst Europa og Afrika.

Bakgrunn

Jeg har tidligere forsket mye på effekter av langtransporterte forurensinger og sur nedbør i Norge, Kina og Polen, og da spesielt på tungmetaller og utvaskning og transport av aluminium. Allerede på slutten av 1980 tallet begynte vi å studere miljøproblemene i Kina og i Polen.

Samarbeid

Innen Gruppen for Miljøanalyse har daglig samarbeid med kjemisk analytikere og kobler på den måten høy kompetanse innen analytisk kjemi med analytiske utfordringer innen konkrete miljøfaglige problemstillinger. Vår tverrfaglige forskning foregår i samarbeid med alle Miljøforskningsinstituttene på CIENS, og da spesielt NIVA og NIBR og forskningsmiljøet på Ås (UmB-IPM, Skog og Landskap, BioForsk etc.). Vi forsker på vann sammen med en rekke kolleger på Institutt for Geofag og Biologisk Institutt.Gjennom å lede SINCIERE har vi har et bredt samarbeid med en lang rekke kolleger ved UiO og Norske forskningsinstitutter som forsker på miljøproblemene i Kina. I Kina har vi et nært samarbeid med bl.a. det Kinesiske Vitenskaps Akademi (CAS) og deres forskningsinstitutter, spesielt Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES).
