IT services at the Department

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Oct. 10, 2014

    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 is the version of Linux offered at the department. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the only Linux platform supported by UiO and it provides UiO and the department of mathematics a unified platform between computing nodes, the Abel Cluster, servers, and desktop clients.

  • Video conferencing at Ullevål Aug. 28, 2017

    Meeting room 311, also known as “Rolling Stone”, has equipment set up for video conferencing. The current setup supports the following software: Skype and Apple FaceTime.

  • Slow network / Slow computer Nov. 13, 2014

    After the transition to IP telephony we have had a few situations where the machines behind the phones have been slow. Often the problem is the phone itself and resetting the phone usually helps. At other times, using webmail towards mail.uio.no causes problems.

  • E-academy July 12, 2013

    Through Microsoft's Imagine programme, students and employees at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences can acquire licensed copies of Microsoft software. The program includes Windows 8 and Windows 7 operating systems, designer and development tools such as Visual Studio and Visio, productivity applications such as OneNote, and much more.

Service messages from local IT

  • New R and RStudio Sep. 15, 2017

    R has been upgraded to a pre-release of 3.4.2 and RStudio to 1.0.153. "Tidyverse" is added as standard to R.

  • Potential network outage at Ullevål Sep. 13, 2017

    On the night from Friday the 15th to Saturday the 16th the fiber cable connecting Ullevål to UiO might experience disturbances. This may cause the network connection out from our current location in Songsveien to drop either partially or completely.

  • Freezing user interfaces Aug. 17, 2017

    A number of machines have, after the upgrade this summer, seen the user interface freeze or become unresponsive. Today the sysadmin staff has pushed a change to all machines with the affected hardware in the hopes of resolving this issue.

  • New TeXLive set as default Aug. 15, 2017

    TeXLive at the department has been updated from an older UiO-specific version of TeXLive 2015 to a more recent version built on TeXLive 2016.

  • Reboot of linux hosts at the department June 25, 2017

    Due to a vulnerability in the stack guard implementation for Linux, all Linux hosts required a reboot to update both the kernel and glibc packages on the systems in question.
