Rules regarding mandatory assignments
In order for the student to be allowed to take the course’s final exam, all the mandatory assignments need to be passed. Beyond this, the mandatory assignments have no effect on the student’s final grade.
The use of all reference material is allowed. Cooperation between students is also allowed. However, the assignments that the students submit must be formulated and written individually and should reflect the student’s understanding of the material. The student may be asked to orally defend the content of a mandatory assignment.
The assignments must be delivered to the Institute’s reception by the given date. The time limits are absolute and the assignments will not be accepted after the deadline unless an agreement has been made with the administration beforehand.
If there is a need for an extension to the deadline, for reasons such as illness, this must be applied for through the administration. Documentation from a doctor or other valid documentation needs to accompany the application. An extension of up to one week is possible. If because of long term sickness it is impossible to hand in the assignment by this date, the student can, under special circumstances, be granted exemption from the mandatory assignments. The teaching staff can not grant either extensions or exemptions.
If a mandatory assignment does not receive a passing grade and the student has shown a real effort to complete the assignment, the student may be allowed to do the assignment again within a given time limit.
We also want to inform you about the following:
- It is only if you have all mandatory assignments approved in a previous semester that you will be exempted from handing them in again. If you have handed in the mandatory assignments (and these were approved) , but not taken the final exam in a course, you have to show your approved assignemnts to the Student Division at the Department of Mathematics for registration
- Mandatory assignments form other courses will not be accepted as replacement for handing in mandatory assignments. The exceptions are MAT1300/MAT2400, MAT2300/MAT2410, STK1120/STK2120 and STK1130/STK2130.
- Previously approved assignments are usable 10 semesters (including the semester they were handed in).
