The European Spallation Source (ESS) is currently under construction in Lund, Sweden. We participate in the study of how the proton beam is accelerated and focused in the ESS.

With the goal of taking the best advantage of existing expertise and strengthen collaborations, 8 universities in the Øresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak region, including UiO, have teamed up with ESS and MAXIV, to create a regional network for neutron and synchrotron scattering.

European Spallation Source (ESS), som planlegges bygget i Lund i Sverige, vil bli verdens kraftigste nøytronkilde og forventes å bli et viktig verktøy innenfor en rekke forskningsfelter, som material- og nanovitenskap, biovitenskap, medisin og farmasi, samt industrielle anvendelser. Regjeringen har besluttet at Norge tar sikte på å bli medlem av og bidra til oppbyggingen av ESS, som forventes å komme i drift ca. 2020.
