The Novelda/Xethru X4 radar is an integrated time domain pulsed radar sensor operating in the frequency range 7-8.5 GHz with a bandwidth of 1.5 GHz. This frequency band chosen for worldwide compliance of UWB band regulations. For other applications such as Ground penetrating radar and biomedical sensing and imaging, regulation is not valid as the energy are radiated into a confined volume of non-air medium not interfering with other RF devices. As non-air mediums are lossy, and the loss is frequency dependent where the loss increase with frequency operating the in the frequency range of 500 MHz -4 GHz is beneficial in many applications. Increased transmitted power and higher gain in the receiver is also sought after in these high loss medium applications.  

By utilizing the sampling system implemented in the X4 SoC radar and adding a RF front-end frequency conversion we can operate the radar system in a frequency range defined by the mixing frequencies supplied to the front-end.
