About the project
SPIDER is a balloon-based CMB polarization experiment observing from 38 000 meters above Antartica. The first flight, observing at 94 and 150 GHz, took place in January 2015 and lasted for 16 days. The next flight is scheduled for December 2018.
The main goal is to measure or constrain primordial B-modes in the CMB, and thereby constraining theories of inflation in the early universe.
The Norwegian participation in SPIDER is funded by the Research Council of Norway through the FRINATEK program.
SPIDER is a collaboration between Princeton, Caltech, JPL, Toronto, Imperial College London, Stanford, CITA, Cardiff, UBC, Case Western, University of Kwazulu-Natal, Illinois, IAS-Orsay, APC, Stockholm, Arizona State and Oslo.
