Horndeski's vector-tensor theory:  a beautiful theory with useless applications?

I will talk about my (and my collaborators) efforts to understand the cosmological consequences of Horndeski's vector-tensor theory.  I'll try to put this into a context and avoid being too technical. Perhaps also some quick and loose lessons on general relativity and applied differential geometry.  If finishing before time, I'll start to bother you with some of my other projects related to cosmic magnetic fields.
