Fredagskollokvium: Accelerated particles in the solar atmosphere

Energetic events in the form of flares happen in the solar atmosphere all the time. They might be the principle heating mechanism of the solar corona. Large flares are well observed while smaller flares are too weak to observe in most wavelengths, but these might be the source of the heating of the solar corona. Within the last five years, observations and modelling have provided evidence that accelerated particles might be produced all the time in the solar corona, possibly accounting for some of the missing heating in the solar corona.

In this talk, I will explain what the particle group at RoCS is doing and how it might help us understand the heating of the solar corona.
