My main research topics focus on the effects of environmental conditions on plankton and fish stocks under external pressures, such as climate change and fisheries. I graduated from the University of Algarve (Portugal) in Marine Biology, finished a MSc in Fisheries Biology and Management at the University of Bergen (Norway), and completed a PhD in Marine Ecology and Oceanography from the Technical University of Denmark (Denmark). I have since joined two very distinct projects for my first and second post-doctoral positions; one on plankton seasonality in the NorthEast Pacific at the University of Washington (USA) and Strathclyde University (UK), and another one on seasonal movements of commercial fish populations explained by the environment at the Technical University of Denmark (Denmark).


I started working on “SPITFIRE - Spatial variability and Implications of the Timing of Fish Responses to the Environment” on November 1, 2018. This is a Marie-Curie funded project and is a collaboration with Joël Durant from CEES and Anna Neuheimer from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA), but currently on leave at a COFUND (Marie Curie) Fellowship at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (Denmark). The main goal of SPITFIRE is to quantify the ability of an improved MMH to globally explain fish dynamics, by acknowledging the roles of zooplankton, space and mismatch.
