Academic interests

In my PhD thesis titled "The Evolution of Metabolic Strategies" I have studied the adaptation of and selection pressures on the metabolism of microorganisms at the VU University in Amsterdam. I joined CEES to research the interactions between species and the effects those interactions can have on evolutionairy outcomes. More specifically, I will study requirements of biological systems that lead to Red Queen evolution—continued evolution driven by biotic interactions—with the analysis of general mathematical models of multiple species communities.

The benefit of evolution in microorganisms is that those can be experimentally tested. Therefore I will apply my knowledge about microbial metabolism to microbial communities to predict Red Queen evolution in microbial systems.
