Source-sink population dynamics, dispersal and inbreeding: Blue tits and great tits on the island Vlieland
By Arie Van Noordwijk.
Since 1955 nearly all great and blue tits on the island of Vlieland have been ringed as nestlings and their parents were identified. Thus, pedigree data are extensive and many pairs are known to be related. I will talk about three issues: 1) Mirror image source-sink population dynamics of great and blue tits, 2) Measuring dispersal as recruitment rates, to filter out the effects of observer presence and 3) The absence of a relationship between distance dispersed and probability to mate with a close relative.
The CEES seminar room has a coffee-machine – it is therefore recommended that you come a bit earlier and get yourself a good cup of coffee (for the price of 3 NOK).
