New face: Lucie Buttay
On October 2018, I started a postdoc position at the CEES within the framework of the FISHCOM project: Addressing uncertainty in FISHeries management in a zooplankton-fish COMmunity under human-induced perturbation. One of the first objectives of my postdoc will be to assess the effects of different management strategies for fisheries under perturbations, and especially the Atlantic cod fishery.
Before coming here, I was a PhD student at the Instituto Español de Oceanografía in Gijón (Spain) working on plankton by using extensive time-series data from the ongoing monitoring program RADIALES. I got fascinated by the way plankton populations can suddenly synchronize their fluctuations, especially because it has been suggested to affect the stability of the communities. So an important part of my PhD thesis was dedicated to identify synchrony and compensatory dynamics and assess their possible drivers in order to gain knowledge about the mechanisms that shape community dynamics.
