New face: Thor Harald Ringsby

From Norway.

I work as associate professor in population ecology at Department of Biology at NTNU and is a member of Centre for Biodiversity Dynamics (CBD, NTNU). My research interests cover population ecology, life history dynamics and conservation biology.

A major part of my research have focused on how populations vary in space and time regarding environmental conditions (e.g. variation in climate conditions) and how this influence local variance in life history traits (such as body size, survival rates, reproduction, dispersal rates etc) and population dynamics within a species.

My main study system is a metapopulation consisting of 18 island populations of House sparrows (Passer domesticus) at the coast of Helgeland in northern Norway which I have been working in since 1992.

During my research stay at CEES I collaborate with prof. Atle Mysterud and his group and I will focus on how parasite-host interactions may be influenced by individual variation in telomere length and thereby affect life history among sparrows.
