Research interest

My main research interests are in earth observation technologies and geoinformatics, and their application to cold regions, climate change, climate change impacts, and natural hazards in such regions.

Among others topics, I investigate glacier change and glacier flow, mountain and lowland permafrost, river flow, and geohazards.

Short bio

I am Professor for remote sensing and geomatics at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo. I received my diploma in civil engineering from the Technical University of Munich and my PhD in Earth sciences from the ETH Zurich.

Over ten years, I was chair of the international working group on Glacier and Permafrost Hazards in Mountains, and member of the European Space Science Committee. I was and am involved in a number of projects for and with the ESA, NASA, and space industry.
