Pass/fail spring 2020

In the spring of 2020, all exams at the MN Faculty were assessed on a pass/fail grade scale in the period May 1–June 30. Master’s theses were assessed as normal with letter grades.

See how the MN Faculty assesses pass/fail.

Do you wish to improve the grade in a course / resit an exam?

If you received a ‘pass’ on an exam in the spring of 2020 but would prefer to have a letter grade, you may resit the exam, provided that you have more examination attempts left. If you pass the exam with a letter grade, the letter grade will overrule the ‘pass’ grade and be registered on your transcript of records and diploma. I you would prefer to keep the ‘pass’ grade after resitting the exam, you must contact MN Student Information within 3 weeks after the letter grade is registered and inform us that you wish to keep the ‘pass’ as a valid grade.

How will this affect admission to a master program?

Changing the grading scale from A–F to pass/fail in the spring of 2020 may affect the minimum C-grade requirement in a required specialization. However, a ‘pass’ grade from spring 2020 should not be a disadvantage when applying to master's programs at the MN Faculty. In order to ensure this, the faculty will make a professional, discretionary assessment of applicants with ‘pass’ grades obtained in the spring of 2020. The faculty will examine the academic level that has been achieved for all subjects included in the specialization and the requirements for admission to the relevant master's program.
