Academic Interests

My main interest is approximation theory, particularly derivation and analysis of algorithms for approximation of functions, curves, surfaces and volumes. I am especially interested in all aspects of spline functions and their theory.

In recent years I have also spent considerable time introducing a coherent computational perspective in the elementary teaching in the mathematically oriented sciences. This involves cooperation with colleagues in several different departments and was originally organised in the CSE (Computers in Science Education) project, now known as CCSE – Centre for Computing in Science Education. CCSE is awarded as a Centre of Excellence in Education Initiative (SFU) by The Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education (DIKU), which is a prestigious national initiative for higher education.
