Research interests

I am interested in the study of medicinal drugs derived from natural sources. This research field, pharmacognosy, is an interdisciplinary science that encapsulates fields such as ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, natural product chemistry, drug discovery, bioprospecting, and intellectual property rights.

For my PhD, I am studying about medicinal plants used in women's healthcare in India. In my research I focus on ethnobotanical field research, phytochemical analysis, bioassays, and high-throughput sequencing for DNA metabarcoding of medicinal plants in trade, specifically medicinal herbal products.

See Hugo de Boer Lab to know more of our DNA Metabarcoding research and publications.
