Academic interests

Medicinal use of substances from plants and fungi.

The fungal kingdom is much less investigated than the plant kingdom. My project is about finding new molecules of interest from Inonotus obliquus, (Chaga). During the project I will look into both high- and low- molecular weight compounds (polysaccharides, melanins, polyphenols, triterpenes etc). These substances will be tested for in biological assays, as well as be chemically characterized so that molecular mechanisms could be established.
