Title: Neurodevelopmental pharmacotoxicity and the potential protective effects of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids – an innovation PhD project
Summary: Paracetamol is the first choice analgesic for use in pregnancy, but recent evidence suggests a potential connection between long-term use of paracetamol during pregnancy and the prevalence of ADHD in the offspring. This project will attempt to determine the mechanisms by which paracetamol elicits this subtle neurotoxic effect in early brain development, as well as investigate whether omega 3 protects against the toxic insult.
