Academic interests

The short version is: Medical technology and electronics.

Within the field of medical technology, it is sensor technology that interest me the most. And that includes everything from the physical quantity that is being measured to a clinical parameter that is being presented at the end. There are a number of interesting areas that are of interest:

  • Transducers: Translates from one type of energy to another.
  • Sensors: Translates physical quantity to an electric signal.
  • Signal transmission: Transfer of analogue or digital signals from one place to another.
  • Signal processing: Processing of analogue and digital signals.
  • Interpretation: Understand implications of the measured signals. This is particularly important in diagnostics.

When it comes to electronics, I find analogue electronics very exciting. I have for a number of years been developer of analogue microelectronics.

I have also tinkered with amateur radio, PCB layout and such things.

Courses taught

  • FYS3231 – Sensors and Measurement Technology

Background

I have worked with electronic design for about 15 years in the electronic industry. The work has mainly been analogue integrated circuit design.

I have worked for about 15 years at Division of the R&D section of Department of Clinical and Biomedical Engineering at Oslo University Hospital.

Appointments

  • Member of national ethics committee for clinical trials of medicines and medical equipment (REK KULMU).

Positions held

  • Researcher at R&D section of Department of Clinical and Biomedical Engineering at Oslo University Hospital.
  • Associate professor at Department of Physics, University of Oslo.
