Maxwell's demon: an old thougth experiment with continued interest and the possibility of new real experiments

Joakim Bergli, Ass. Prof. at Physics Department, will talk about "Maxwell's demon: an old thougth experiment with continued interest and the possibility of new real experiments"

A thought experiment devised by Maxwell to illustrate the statistical nature of thermodynamics involved a "demon" which could see the individual molecules of a gas. This har stimulated several interesting new ideas over almost 150 years, with new results still appearing. Presently, it has become possible to realize essentially the same in real experiments. I will discuss the central ideas and describe current experiments
