Call for proposals for the Ivar Giæver Visiting Fellowship Program

Opportunities for research in paleo- and rock magnetism at the Ivar Giæver Geomagnetic Laboratory (IGGL), University of Oslo, Norway with the Ivar Giæver Visiting Fellowship Program (fall 2017). Application deadline is June 30, 2017.

Ivar Giæver Visiting Fellowship Program (fall 2017)

The Ivar Giæver Geomagnetic Laboratory (IGGL)

The Ivar Giæver Geomagnetic Laboratory (IGGL) is a Norwegian national research infrastructure for paleomagnetism and rock magnetism, which is supported by the Research Council of Norway and hosted by the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics, University of Oslo, Norway.

The core mission is to serve the entire geoscience community in Norway and abroad by providing access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and scientific expertise for research in a wide variety of topics relevant to studies in paleomagnetism, rock and mineral magnetism, and other related interdisciplinary fields.

Five visiting fellowships

This year IGGL launched a visiting program. In this current (and second) call we award five visiting fellowships for the period from August 15 through December 21, 2017.

The awards will provide full access to the IGGL instruments for up to 10 working days and reimbursement of traveling costs (transportation and hotel expenses) for up to 10000 Norwegian krones (ca. €1060 or $1160) per fellowship. The use of the IGGL instruments and the technical assistance of our staff are free of charge.

The fellowships will be awarded based on evaluation of short research proposals by IGGL staff and members of the IGGL Advisory Committee. Topics for research are not restricted to geomagnetism and geosciences in general, but preference will be generally given to projects in paleomagnetism, rock and mineral magnetism, environmental magnetism and extraterrestrial magnetism.

The deadline for applications is June 30, 2017.
