The Glaciology Exchange program (GlacioEx)

GlacioEx is a Norwegian/Canadian/US partnership exchange program (2012-2016) for studies focusing on glaciers and glaciology at Universities of Oslo, Ottawa, Alberta, Alaska, The University Centre on Svalbard (UNIS) and Simon Fraser University (Vancouver).

GlacioEx at a glance:

  • focus on scientific and educational activities related to glaciology, and more generally to the terrestrial cryosphere; glaciers, snow cover, permafrost and seasonal frost in sub-Arctic, Arctic, and high mountain environments.
  • the cryospheric conditions is expected to face major changes over the coming decades. The countries in the North will have a common and pressing need to learn from each other’s research, and to expose university students at all levels to the similarities and differences in environmental and societal conditions in the North.
  • aims to strengthen scientific cooperation and research interaction between the project partners Universities in Oslo-Norway, Ottawa, Alberta, Alaska, The University Centre on Svalbard (UNIS) and Simon Fraser University (Vancouver).
