Characterization of debris avalanche and debris flows in a selected area through remote sensing and field work
Debris flow and debris avalanche are not systematically characterized in Norway.
The thesis will focus in studying in details one recent debris avalanche or debris flow (a single event or multiple events in a specific area) to prepare event-inventory map and to better characterize starting mechanisms (topography, geology, meteorological and ground conditions) and runout conditions (sedimentologic characterization of deposits). It can include also back analyses of starting mechanisms.
Results will be used to update the national database and provide better quality data to be used for statistical analysis and future research projects
Type of methodology: Remote sensing tools and field work observations.
