Glacier Terrain Parameterization
Modelling glacier evolution requires parameterization of the glacier’s geometry in 3D space. In particular, 2D glacier flow-line models require description of the central flow line, the terrain slope and aspect along the flow line and across the glacier.
In addition, the slopes of the valley sides are important for characterizing the glacier shape important for modelling glacier dynamics. In this project, automated routines should be developed for extracting glacier terrain parameters required for setting up 2-3D glacier models.
The aim is to apply algorithms to all glaciers worldwide, but this project will begin by looking at a region (for example, Scandinavia).
