Common parameter set for the flood forecasting model at different temporal resolutions
The Flood Alert Service has flood forecasting models that run at different temporal resolutions. These models should, preferably, provide similar internal states and response, so that it is easier to compare the forecasts across all models.
Models at different temporal resolutions have traditionally been calibrated independently. Models for the same catchment, but with a different temporal resolution, can thus obtain parameters that result in very different initial conditions in advance of a flood event.
In a first step, parameter sets for different temporal resolutions will be analysed, so that parameters that depend strongly on the resolutions are identified. Based on the analysis, hypotheses about processes/situations that are particularly sensitive to the temporal resolution will be identified.
Alternative parameterizations of some processes will be tested, aiming at harmonizing parameter sets across time resolution.
