Importance of deep structural grain for Mesozoic faulting - the Fingerdjupet to Bjarmland platform region (in 3D and 2D seismic analysis)

Main aims/objectives:
The main purpose of this thesis work is to study deep structures in the Fingerdjupet Subbasin and adjacent areas in the SW Barents Sea, with special focus on the importance of the deep (Late Paleozoic) structural grain for younger (Late Permian and Mesozoic faulting.

Data: 2D seismic data, well data

Methods/tools: Seismic interpretation using Petrel, Modelling – backstripping and structural restoration (optional)

Work plan:

  • Interpretations of regional 2D seismic lines
  • Seismic to well ties, stratigraphic calibration
  • Detailed interpretation of seismic data (3D and 2D)
  • Deep structures (basement/Devonian-Carboniferous)
  • Younger faulting in relation to deep structural grain - timing and style of faulting (reactivation?)
