Crustal structure and development of the Vesterålen/Senja Margin

The work will result in a crustal P-wave velocity transect at the transition between the Vesterålen and western Barents Sea margins. It will be related to early seafloor spreading, continental margin development, and crystalline crustal structure onshore.

Seismic data consists of three-component seismometer data from instruments either deployed at the seafloor (5 instruments, good data), or land stations densely deployed across the Senja island and the adjacent mainland (70 instruments, but about 30 good data sets).

The work will consist of basic processing of wide-angle seismic data using Seismic Unix, interpretation of seismic arrival times, and the construction of a velocity model by use of ray-tracing (Rayinvr).

Maps and other figures will be made using GMT.
