Local procedure for health and safety training for field work

This procedure should ensure all lab and field work is following Norwegian laws and regulations. The procedure should ensure that all students and employees working in the labs and/or doing field work have received necessary training.

This procedure applies for all laboratories at the Department of Biosciences. The procedure applies for all research and teaching activities.

Responsibility

Head of Department has overall responsibility for all work at IBV.
Section leader is responsible to ensure that everybody in their section has necessary training.
Supervisor is responsible to ensure that their students get necessary local training.
HMS-i/lab manager should facilitate the training and grant access to the labs."Ekspedisjonen" (IBV-reception) controls the keys at the department.

The web form (link below) functions as both as template for the necessary training, based on the options in the form, as well as a self declaration for reading and understanding the necessary topics. Keys/access will be granted after HMS-i/lab manager has confirmed your training to postmottak@ibv.uio.no.

Everybody working in the lab.

 

HMS0504 - Field safety (Online course) Everybody doing field work.

Selection and use of personal protective equipment.
The seminar is aimed at those who use personal protective equipment at work. The focus is on the gloves, goggles and masks. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and to test the equipment.

Everybody working in the lab.
Infection control.
The course is aimed at those working with biological agents in the laboratory.
Leaders and everybody working with biological factors class 2 and/or GMM2
Gas safety.
The course is a 0.5hrs online course aimed at those that are handling gas cylinders, switching regulator, storage of bottles or handling of liquified gas.
Everybody handling gas and their leaders
User course in radiation protection for work with open radioactive sources.
The course will ensure that those who work with open radioactive sources have the necessary knowledge about radiation protection and radioactivity, so that the work is carried out in accordance with current laws and regulations.

Mandatory HSE training for students

All students:

ALL master students must pass necessary mandatory courses before signing the contract. This will be registered through the student administration.

It is expected that all supervisors know the contents of these mandatory courses.
