BIR pipeline is developed for several initial tasks involved in phylogenetic reconstructions. In particular, it is useful for multi-gene phylogenies – recently named phylogenomics. As phylogenomics analyses involve the use of many genes from as many species as possible, the preparation of the relevant data is difficult and time consuming. BIR makes this processes simpler and more user-friendly. In addition, it helps the scientist to identify ortholog gene copies and hence reduces the chance of including paralog copies.
