Best Paper Award to LTG Staff

At the Fourth International Symposium on Languages in Biology and Medicine (LBM2011), Jonathon Read, Erik Velldal, Stephan Oepen, and Lilja Øvrelid receive the Best Paper award for their article Resolving Speculation and Negation Scope in Biomedical Articles with a Syntactic Constituent Ranker. This work contributes to so-called bio-medical text mining, where it is important to determine the degree of factuality of individual sentences or parts of sentences. In 2010, the same line of research at LTG had competed very successfully in the Shared Task of the International Conference on Computational Natural Language Learning.
