Bioinformatics: Simulating the motion of genes
Gene expression is regulated though long-range interactions with enhancer and silencer elements that come into close contact with promoter regions in three-dimensional (3D) space. However, the mechanism is not understood.
In this project, the student will (together with the supervisor) develop a computational tool simulating how genes dynamically interact with regulatory elements. The model will be used to explore how the positioning of these elements relates to gene regulation in healthy and pathological states.
