Intelligent processing of email communications
Microsoft Development Center Norway (MDCN) is located in Oslo, Trondheim, Tromsø, and develops core technologies, products and services in Microsoft Office that are used by hundreds of millions of users every day. This topic will be carried out in close cooperation with Microsoft and MDCN employees.
Nowadays, both in professional and casual settings, a significant amount of time is spent keeping on top of one’s Inbox. Natural language processing and machine learning techniques could minimize the overhead and increase productivity by classifying emails, identifying and highlighting tasks, as well as providing a summary of the communication. The project aims to gather requirements for a reasonable email clustering and apply state-of-the art tools and techniques to generate summaries and identify follow-ups. For example, many emails are just FYIs (e.g., “Last year, the company’s revenue was X”) whereas others require a concrete action from the recipient (e.g., “Send me the report as soon as possible”.)
